some work and some fun

We are at the point of defining the main living area of the earthship.  We only go until we run out of money or energy.  This portion of the house has been fun because we have been able to able to start at least some of the artistic touches.

Cutting the bottles and making the "bottle bricks" is a dirty process but the result is well worth the effort.

The start of the division wall between the bedroom and living area

This is the a part of the same division wall but will be all cans {plastered over} up to about four feet high.  This portion will be obscured by a kitchen cupboard.  An artistic element will be sculpted in above that and more bottles will be added for color and light.

Here you can see the bottles to your left and the start of the can wall to the right of the door buck.

From this view you can see what we hope to get closed in before the snows fly.  If it appears that some elements are missing from earlier updates, they are.  I made some mistakes by using non pressure treated materials on ground and concrete contact areas.  It would create problems with rotting down the road and are better addressed now than later.

Scott appearing to work on his earthship

Scott will certainly be finished before I will.  The entire build on his home is eight weeks, start to finish.  There are from eight to twenty five young men and women working on this project six days a week.

His earthship is being built by Michael Reynolds, the father of the earthship concept.  If you are interested in seeing the remarkable progress on his home click on the earthship link on my home page.  Watch for the upcoming documentary on Scotts earthship on the Discovery channel.  It is probably a year away.
